The 1860 census of Sevier Co. AR lists Christopher C Hammack, schoolteacher, livi ng in this area, and indication that there was a school close by before the Civil War. The Hammack family consisting of Christopher and J.T. Hammack (brothers), their father, J.T.'s wife Mary Land Haccack and children moved to Kolbtown from Coweta Co, GA. They built a home on the north side of Ft. Towson Road (just south of Highway 70 west) about a mile east of the Saline River. They had a family cevetery across the Ft. Towson Rd. which was started when the father died. There are 14 Graves in the cemetery. Mr. Hammack, J.T. Hammack, Mary Hammack Hall, Curtis Hall, and a baby Hall are known to be buried there. Most if not all the graves are mem bers of the Hammack family. Several of the family contracted typhoid fever, believed to be caused from the spring water, and died. The cemetery was va ndalized and markers removed by gold hunters in the 1920's. Both listed i n 1850 Coweta Co, GA census.
