Chrisman Leader. L. L. Henry Obituary. (November 1954).

Lewis Henry, 39, father of six, was found dead shortly after 11 a.m. Monday, victim of a hunting accident. Mr. Henry, who lived in an apartment over the post office, left home at 9 a.m. to go hunting and apparently was returning to Chrisman when the accident occurred. Roger Hoult, a farmer residing southwest of Chrisman, noticed the body of a man on the ground near a fence when he was driving past. He notified Edgar County Coroner Owen, who ordered the body taken to the Scott Funeral Home in Chrisman. An inquest was held at 1:30 p.m. with the jury returning a verdict of death due to a wound in the abdomen caused by the shell of a 16-guage shotgun, accidently discharged while hunting. Coroner's jury included Dale Carico, Harold McGlosson, Mike Scott, Moody Gilbert, Mrs. O. Raymond Scott and Raymond Scott. The victim had borrowed the shotgun at the Wayne Knight Restaurant for use on the hunting trip. Hoult told the coroner's jury that he found mud on the fence wire, indicating that it might have scraped off Henry's shoes as he attempted to cross the fence. Henry was lame from a leg fracture some time ago. It was theorized that the 16-guage shotgun carried by henry discharged as he was crossing the fence. The gun was found near the body, as was a can used by Henry, due to his lameness. The body is at the Scott Funeral Home where services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. F. E. Pyle, minister of the Baptist Church, officiating. Mr. Henry was born at Bluford, Aug. 31, 1915, son of Frank and Etta Davis Henry. He married Genevieve Johnston Nov. 18, 1935, and she survives. Also surviving are six children, James, Jack, Evelyn Joe, Judith Elaine, Gary Orville and Michael D.; his father, Frank Henry of Danville; two brothers, David (should be Dean) Henry of Westville and Paul Henry of Detroit, MI; four sisters, Mrs. Ona Chrisman of Detroit, Mrs. Gus Grindley of Oakwood, Mrs. Gloria Snider and Mrs. Ethel Siegler, both of Danville. He was preceded in death by his mother, a sister and an infant. Mr. Henry was a veteran of World War II. The Chrisman American Legion Post 477 will asist at the services.
