Henry Henderson of Wardsville Family Bible. |
The following was found in the files of Edith Lorine Henderson and supposedly is a transcription from a Henderson family bible. Unfortunately the location of the bible is unknown.

His son, John, born April 12, 1791, died July 15, 1865.
Catherine, wife of John, born March 1, 1793, died at Potsdam, St. Larus County, NY, June 29, 1875.
Children of John and Catherine.
William, born February 1, 1822, died February 15, 1871.
Henry, born February 4, 1824, died October 20, 1902 or 1912 in Wardsville.
Edward, born November 12, 1826, died a baby.
Thomas, born December 7, 1829.
Catherine, born March 3, 1832.
Richard, died at home farm, Potsdam, NY.
Comments on the above:
- St. Larus is an incorrect transcription of St. Lawrence. Potsdam is in St. Lawrence County, NY.
- John and Catherine occur in the 1850 census for Potsdam Town, NY, along with John Jr, Mary, Richard and Maryann. Maryann was born in New Hampshire and the others in Ireland. Note that John Jr., assumed to be a son, was not mentioned in the bible record and John and Mary have not been found after 1850. Maryann is Mary Ann Walker, wife of Richard, and she was born in New Hampshire.
- In the 1860 census for Potsdam, John and Catherine were still alive although not living with any children. Any attempt to find their graves has been unsuccessful.
- Son Henry is not identified in any USA census because he removed to Canada in 1842. His life in Wardsville, Ontario is well documented.
- It is not known where William, Thomas and Catherine went although three by those names, born in Ireland and living together in Detroit are in the 1850 census. In 1880 there was a Thomas in Detroit, age 50, born Ireland.
- In 1860 Richard and his wife were in Michigan but they returned by 1870 to take over the home farm. Richard did not die in Potsdam but in Minnesota. After his wife died he moved in 1897 to live with his daughter leaving the Potsdam farm with his son. In his obituary it is stated that he came from Ireland with his family in 1836.
