Scott Gordon Wells, 51, passed away on July 22, 2001 at Dixie Regional Medical Center of complications from a recent surgery.

Scott was born on November 16, 1949 in St. George, Utah to George and Hannah Hegsted Wells Rose. Scott married Jillyn Sullivan on March 17, 1972 in the St. George Temple.

Scott was raised in St. George attending Dixie High School where he served as the president of the great “Class of 68”. He graduated from Dixie College and served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Finland from 1969 to 1971. He graduated from Utah State University and went on to attend Washington State University where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree in 1977. He began his career as a Veterinarian in Fresno, Calif. with his brother, Mark. He returned to St. George in 1978 to open his own practice, Animal Medical Hospital on Bluff Street. He has enjoyed being a Veterinarian and serving his many loyal clients and friends throughout his 23 year career.

Scott has served in many capacities in the LDS Church, most recently serving as Bishop of the Dixie College 4th Ward. He loved “his kids” at the college and was able to touch many of their lives. Scott has enjoyed coaching his sons in Little League Baseball and has had many "winning seasons", one of the most memorable being the assistant coach of the Utah State Championship All-Star Team that competed in the Western Regionals in San Bernardino, Calif. He coached the "Rangers" and his three boys through their Little League years and took great pride in teaching his teams good sportsmanship and to "never give up." Scott was especially proud of his family and loved spending time with them. He and his wife have enjoyed traveling and have been able to tour Europe with their group of Veterinay friends from around the United States several times; however, his favorite time was his "mountain time" at the family cabin in Pine Valley. He enjoyed reading the Book of Mormon and the classics and he especially loved his most recent role as "grandpa" to Laynee and George.

Scott is survived by his wife Jillyn of St. George and his sons, Kyle (JoEllen) of Tucson, Ariz.; Spencer (Shana) of Salt Lake City; Mason (Mandy) of St. George; daughters, Lauri and Traci of St. George; two grandchildren, Laynee and George; his mother, Hannah of St. George; three brothers: Mark (Marian) of Pine Valley; Gawain (Gayle) of Provo; and Gary (Marsha) of Santa Clara; Parents-in-law, Hal and Leila Sullivan of St. George. He was preceded in death by his father, George and a son, David.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 27, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the 16th Ward Chapel on 700 South. A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2001 at Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Friday, July 27. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.
