Jim Vidunas. Communication from Jim Vidunas, 1 March 2004. |
"My Vidunas Family came America before 1910. My father was Louis, the oldest of the 5 kids. As best I know, my father's father was an only child. His name was August. He died when my father was a teenager. The 5 childre were Louis, John, Joseph, Ann, Stella. They are all dead now.
I was born in 1944. ....John...was born in Europe and was about 6 years old when he came to America. He gave me a little bit of information. He remembered the town Punskas Parafio (possibly Pinskas Parafio) in the Sawicki District. He thinks that's where the church was. Of course, the people trusted the church more than the state.
While I was in Lithuania (in 1993) we visited the Vidunas family home in Leipalingus. They can trace the family back to about 1900, when the house was built. At that point we had no common ancestor.
Leipalingus is about 15 miles inside the border with Poland. About 15 miles inside Poland is a town called Pinskas. So, it's possible there is a common ancestor if we can dig a little deeper. Unfortunately, that area of the world was hit very hard during WWII, but perhaps the church records still exist. "
