Description
In 2012-2013 Sandi Gorin posted a series of articles to the ancestry message boards in which she listed abstracts of land records found in the Certificate Book of the Virginia Land Commission, 1779-1783. Based on her extensive work, I have extracted the records in which the surname Stewart is referenced and added enhancements and corrections to aid me in my research. These are my versions of the abstracts. As always, the original land record should be consulted and referenced for accuracy.
I think this list is complete for the Stewarts mentioned, but any additions/corrections are welcome. My abstract lists the date and place of the court hearing, the grantee, brief description of the land, and why the settlement certificate was awarded (i.e. the settler marked and/or improved the land, or planted a crop of corn, etc.)
