11/11/1978: History of the clay dog - door stopper: Somewhat over 80years ago my dad was foreman of the press section of the sewer pipe worksin Empire Oh. That is where we 3 children were born and lived during ourchildhood (Ethel, Earl & Lawarence). The sewer pipe works decided to tryputting out a novelty or so and a few of these dogs were produced. Idon't know of any other such sideline and it evidently didn't pay.Immediately ouur dad brought home two of the dogs as toys for Earl andme. Children had very few toys at that time and we loved our dogs, namedthem, and played with them constantly. Years later I learned they werecopied from a beautiflu white china dog made in England. Leah inheritedone of those from her "aunties" who prized their lovely ornament veryhighly. I suppose Tom and Sally have that now, and I have given Tom myclay dog when my apratment is cleared. The china dog and the clay dog areexactly alike in size, etc. When on of our got broken in our play, Iimmediatley told Earh, he broke his - and he accepted that fact. Lawrenceinherited his dog and You (NAN) told me you now have it. Aunt Ethel
