Mr. James Bryce passed away at his home in Walhalla on Tuesday afternoon at the age of seventy-seven years, seven months and twenty days. Death came not unexpectedly as he first took to his bed about the middle of December, and while he rallied at times, he has gradually grown weaker right along and it was recognized that he could nit survive. Mr. Bryce was born in Ramsey County, Ontario, August 10th 1837, of Scottish parents, and grew to manhood there. In 1871 he was married to Miss Sarah Dalzell and seven children have been born to them, six of whom are still living. Four sons, Adam, Craig, James and John and two daughters Mrs. Wm. McQuarrie and Violet- all in or near Walhalla. Mr. Bryce and family came to Pembina County in 1888 and first settled in Leroy on the farm now occupied by Jos. Rassler, later buying the farm east of town upon which they lived up until about three years ago when they moved to Walhalla. Mr. Bryce was a tireless worker, a kind husband and father and respected by all who knew him, and the enmity of none. The funeral took place from the Methodist church in this city Thursday April 1st, the Pastor, Rev. W. E. Vater officiating, assisted by Rev. John MacDonald of the Presbyterian church. The mourning relatives and friends have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. Those relatives from out of town who were her to attend the funeral were; Mr. And Mrs. Chapman of Glasston and Mr. and Mrs. W. Dalzell of Drayton. Mrs. Chapman is a sister and Mr. Dalzell is a brother of Mrs. Bryce.
