Origin

"Turvey is one of the many names that the Normans brought with them when they conquered England in 1066."

Although I've heard this before, I'm pretty sure this isn't actually true - it's based on the theory that Turvey is a corruption of Turville. Looking at the map in Surname:Turvey, the distribution of names is quite different from the "Leicestershire" origin stated for Turville on this page and more consistent with the alternative derivation - a locational surname from the village of Turvey in Bedfordshire. Given that one of the Turvey genealogies listed on WeRelate goes back to a 16th century Bedfordshire Turvey, I think that's more likely. AndrewRT 18:48, 20 November 2009 (EST)
