purchase what they should have their money paid them in a few days did Sell for Beef many of their best Cattle including a number a Number of very Valueable Working Oxen at a very Moderat price, which Moneys your Petitioners are still unjustly keept out of & which is now reduced more than One half by the Deprecation that has happened since that Period, by reason of all which your Petitioners are rendord wholly incapable to pay the heavy Taxes which the War has necessarly burthened? them or of settling their private contracts or paying their Just Debits and which is still more oppressive deprived them of the means of procuring those Necessary & Comforts of Life which their Families are realy in need of. Your Petitioners further beg have? ( leave?) to represent to your Honours that after all the aids given & Services done within their power for supporting and Carrying on the War as above stated & for which they have Large & Just demands against the Public, many of them have had their Goods Seized and taken into Custody by the Civil Officers and now advertised for sale for this payment of public Taxes which proceedings your Petitioners can not without Manifest? InJustice to themselves, avoid Complaining Loudly of a very great grievance not only because they have demands Ag’t The Public, but that they are Confident from the great Scarsety of Money in this place their Goods would not when exposed to Sale fetch half their Value by which means your Petitioners must unavoidedly be great Sufferess, they therefore earnestly intreat your Hon.’ss in your wisdom to Devise some Ways and a Means by which the Public Debits may be Discharged and your Petitioners inabled thereby to pay their Taxes the which they will then be Ready and very Willing to do. Likewise to fulfill their other private Engagm’ts and of Course a Stop just to the further oppressive Seizure & Sale of their Effects for Taxes a Measure which if persisted in under their present Circumstances your Petitioners are under Serious apprehensions will be attended with very Alarming, detressing and dangerous Consequences, to Avoid Which they humbly begg that your Honours will take the matter into your most (end of page 2)
