Based on Census data obtained from Ancestry.com, using a Wikipedia based map of the counties of Scotland, adjustd to correspond to borders of the 1841 census year.

Areas in green show counties with Kilgore HOH's in 1841. Counties in grey show counties where Kilgores appear in later census years through 1901. Distribution of the Kilgore surname is somewhat erratic, appearing and dissappearing in some areas more or less randomly. This may be due to issues of "data capture" or to population movements. Such effects may have an exaggerated appearance because of the small population size.

In most census years the population seems to be centered in Lanarkshire. In most other areas (grey), the population appears and dissappears from census record to census record. Surprizingly, the surname is particularly uncommon in Fife, even though that's the location of the onetime parish of Kilgore, said by some to be the source of the surname.
