Following the discovery of this newspaper report, the physical petty court records were viewed at the Lancashire Archive, Preston, England, on 17 November 2015 for any mention of Hugh's Mother's name. The case was easily found, but tantalizingly, she wasn't named! The court record was concise and confirmed the newspaper report. 'Informant, Complainant or Applicant - Roger Moorhouse'. 'Nature of Offence - Application for Order to maintain mother'. Date of Hearing - 1895 28 October'. Total Fees & Costs - 13s 6d'. 'Remarks - Defendant to pay 2/6 a week + costs'.

A week previously, the work house records had been viewed but found to not cover this date.
