Description

Grave site of William "Billy The Kid" Bonney. The stone is shackled down because it has been stolen so many times.

Since the engraving is somewhat difficult to read, it is described further below:

  • The words, "TRUTH AND HISTORY" within the triangle at top wrapped around two interlaced pistols.
  • The words and numbers, "21 III III III III III III III MEN" horizontal at the bottom portion of triangular top.
  • "BILLY THE KID" identifies the interred.
  • "BORN NOV 23, 1860" on left side.
  • "KILLED JUL 14, 1881" on right side.
  • "THE BOY BANDIT KING HE LIVED AS HE DIED" in the center.
  • "ERECTED IN 1940 BY THE N WARNER MEMORIAL SERVICE SALIDA COLORADO" on the bottom.
