Van Balk wordt ons dd. 7 dezer berigt: "Van de Gaasterlandsche landverhuizers, waarvan wij vroeger hebben gemeld, is bereids gisteren avond eene afdeeling met nog drie gezinnen uit eene andere Gemeente onder het vaarwel zeggen van familien en eene menigte nieuwsgierigen, dien zij waarschijnlijk niet weder zullen begroeten, vrolijk en in goeden luim alhier scheep gegaan, en zijn alzoo heden morgen van hier naar Amsterdam vertrokken, om van daar hunne reis naar Noord-Amerika voort te zetten, ten einde zich aldaar te vestigen. Men zegt dat eerlang de tweede afdeeling ook de reis van hier derwaarts, zal aannemen. Men schrijft het emigreren van velen in deze omstreken voornamelijk toe, aan zucht tot eene betrekkelijk uitgestrekte grondbezitting als ook mede aan de ijverige pogingen van de agenten voor de landverhuizers".
