Watchers

This is a photograph of female relatives of Nellie Seslar Ashton (1876-1951), wife of Charles S. Ashton (1872-1957), taken in front of Nellie & Charles' home on Main Street, in the village of Venedocia, Van Wert County, Ohio. It was taken around 1946. There is an accompanying photograph of the Charles Ashton with his male relatives.

Other than her daughter-in-law, Violet (Mrs. Paul V. Ashton), and granddaughter, Ruby Pauline, who lived in Venedocia, all of the other women were from out of town. It appears that they had stayed over at least one night because several of the women are wearing scarves, implying that they had washed their hair and had it pinned up, waiting for it to dry.

The group consists of Nellie and two of her three living daughters, Fern Ulrich, her eldest child, and Florence Stanton (Pauline Patterson is not present); a daughter-in-law, Violet; and granddaughters Kathleen and Betty Stanton, Gerry Ulrich and Deloris Ulrich Kramer, and Ruby Pauline Ashton; and great-granddaughter, baby Sandra.
