Description

The wooden box on the mantel in Laura and Randy Butler's home contains the American flag that Staff Sgt. Aaron Butler's teammates in Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group of the Utah National Guard draped over his body when he was taken from their unit in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan in August 2017. The United States Army Special Forces' motto engraved on the box, de oppresso liber is traditionally believed to mean to free from oppression or to liberate the oppressed.
