I have found that, especially around the turn of the century, that neighbors often became family. I am documenting my family's neighbors here. To save time I will link the census image to the family units, except in my family line where I link to individuals. --EeVas 13:46, 27 June 2011 (EDT)

Transcript of Thomas Johnston and his family The 1900 census outside of Mesquite Village in Dallas County is a treasure trove for Johnston history. Page 2 show the listings for Thomas Johnston's household, that of his son Ham Johnston and his daughter Laura Johnston.

She has had 8 children, 6 living. She was born in Texas, her father in Virginia and mother in South Carolina. In their house is Jason J., age 19 b. in Texas in July 1880 he works as a farm laborer; Donrum J. age 26, widower. He was born Mar 1874 in Texas. He too works as a farm laborer; and Roselay Johnston born April 1885 in Texas.

Next to Ham is his sisters family. George Groves, b. July 1864 in Tennessee to parents both born in Tennessee. Laura Groves born Nov. 1869 in Texas. Laura and George have been married 12 years.
