Alternate convention [20 August 2024]

Since the Family Page Title shows up in searches (instead of full names of both spouses), do we want to support an alternate convention for people who routinely used their middle name instead of their legal first name (as was common with many German names)? The alternate convention would allow renaming a family page title to include the middle name instead of the first name.

I think we resolved this since this post and agreed that an alternate convention in this type of case is not necessary. Do you agree? --cos1776 19:19, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Alternately, we could ask for a system change to display full primary name of both spouses in search results, instead of the family page title. This would be consistent with searches on persons, which show the primary name rather than the page title.--DataAnalyst 03:09, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

Yes. I like that idea. How about something simple like this?

Ex. Search for Ayd-Wehage family

Current return: Family:Reinhard Ayd and Carolina Wehage Husband: 2 Feb 1808 - 7 Dec 1870 Wife: 15 Feb 1828 - 17 Aug 1916 Marriage: 30 Jul 1849, Baltimore (county), Maryland, United States Children: Joseph Ayd (6); Heinrich Ayd (1); John Ayd (1); Anna Ayd (1); Joseph Ayd (2); Philomina...

Proposed return: Family:Reinhard Ayd and Carolina Wehage (1) Husband: Reinhard Joseph Ayd, 2 Feb 1808 - 7 Dec 1870 Wife: Carolina Elizabeth Wehage, 15 Feb 1828 - 17 Aug 1916 Marriage: 30 Jul 1849, Baltimore (county), Maryland, United States Children: Joseph Ayd (6); Heinrich Ayd (1); John Ayd (1); Anna Ayd (1); Joseph Ayd (2); Philomina...

I added the index number as well, but if there is a good reason for not doing that, I'm fine either way. --cos1776 19:19, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

The changes to be implemented later this year will include middle name(s) in the family name on the first line (meaning there is no need to have an alternate convention for page title).--DataAnalyst 21:28, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

Testing the page protection feature

I was wondering if perhaps you had removed the protection from this page, since it is still available for me from the left menu. History doesn't seem to indicate one way or the other. I am a little surprised about that and, if it is currently protected, why there is no message/text/?not sure what it would be? telling readers that the page is protected. Something from the program, I mean, not something that we would add manually. --cos1776 19:19, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
