Family talk:Walter Cooke and Experience Holbrook (2)

wrong experience [26 March 2010]

The vital records of Weymouth, p. 1:79, has Ebenezer, the son of Walter Cook, b. 30 May 1656 (and he is not the eldest child). Walter was made a freeman in 1653 so probably born abt. 1632 or before. This should be sufficient to show that Walter's wife was not Experience Holbrook b. 1661, d/o John and Elizabeth Holbrook. She married Joseph Edson and I will be detaching her page to use for that marriage. The History of Weymouth, p. 3:174 only identifies Walter Cook's wife as Experience ---, and no marriage record is listed in VRs. It is quite possible that his wife came with him from England? The History of Weymouth does not show any Experience in John's father's family (Thomas and Jane Holbrook) who was the original immigrant (she was not mentioned in Thomas's will nor were any children of hers, though it is not clear that the named grandchildren represent all of his grandchildren). --Jrich 11:28, 26 March 2010 (EDT)

I was somewhat confused, justifiably so. This page is Walter Jr but he is listed with the marriages of Walter Sr. Thus somebody probably extrapolated to Experience Holbrook because they were using Walter Jr.'s age. But it was Walter Sr. that had a wife named Experience, and it was clearly not Experience Holbrook. There is no record of a marriage of Walter Jr., nor any children born to him in either Weymouth or Bridgewater (nor Mendon where Walter Sr. and 2nd wife Catherine died). --Jrich 12:11, 26 March 2010 (EDT)
