I am detaching Person:Thomas Nichols (3) as husband on this page.

There are no sources supporting this. Which is not surprising, as this Thomas is not a good match. While this page shows a daughter Jane b. abt. 1690, he is recorded in Scituate having a daughter Elizabeth b. 1690. None of the standard sources for the Hingham/Scituate Nichols show a second wife for this Thomas (i.e., Mayflower Births & Deaths, p. 2:156). There are at least 3 Thomas Nichols, not counting the father of this Thomas: Thomas of Scituate, Thomas of Newport, RI, and a Thomas Nichols, mariner, of New Jersey. So this is a situation where careless genealogy is likely to make a mistake. The only defense against this type of mistake is careful citation of sources and exhaustive searching. --Jrich 10:44, 23 March 2011 (EDT)
