--MizThistle 12:36, 11 November 2007 (EST) I descend from McWILLIAM and MILROY families of Wigtownshire. My families came to New York in May of 1774 aboard the "Gale" and were: George McWILLIAM b. 15 Mar 1749, Parish of Whithorn (Bible) married Mary MILROY 6 Feb 1783 Schenectady, New York, d. 24 Nov 1812 Charlton, Saratoga County, New York. George and Mary are buried at Scotch Church Cemetery, Charlton, NY. John MILLROY b. abt 1734 Elizabeth (her family name is believed McCRACKEN) b. 1738; Children: Mary b. 15 Feb 1762 (Bible) (Mary married George McWILLIAM see above) Janet b. abt. 1764; Elizabeth b. abt. 1766; Anthony b. abt. 1767; John b. abt. 1768; Agnes b. abt 1772. There is a record of the marriage of John MILROY and Elizabeth McCRACKEN in 1760 in the Parish Register of Minnigaff. To the best of my knowledge, no children of this couple have so far been traced. I would like find the birth family of my 4x great grandfather, George McWILLIAM, the parents of my 5x great grandparents, Elizabeth and John MILROY and learn about these families before they arrived in New York. I have substantial information about George and Mary Milroy McWILLIAM and their children and am happy to share. The MILROY family in America has proven far more challenging to search but I do have some records. To date I've been unable to locate death dates for John and Elizabeth MILROY. I would be pleased to correspond with you, or anyone else, interested in these McWILLIAM and MILROY families. |
