[add comment] [edit] The identity of Temperance, second wife of Nathaniel Stedman. [22 April 2011]Temperance, second wife of Nathaniel Stedman, has been identified by someone, somewhere, as Temperance Willis/Wills daughter of Michael and Mildred. Robert Charles Anderson, in preparing the sketch of Isaac Stedman in The Great Migration, VI:498-504, did not identify the origin of Temperance, second wife of Isaac's son Nathaniel. Possibly Robert S. Wakefield's article in The American Genealogist (TAG), 69:155-159 to which I don't currently have access, clarifies this matter. I have reviewed the subsequent Wakefield article, TAG 71:85-86 which identifies three children of his second marriage based on three Middlesex County deeds and names Temperance Stedman widow of Nathaniel. Wakefield estimated that Nathaniel junior was born about 1665 and was the eldest child of the second marriage. Temperance, daughter of Michael and Mildred Willis was baptized (as Temperance Wills) in Boston 9 day 2 mo. 1648 (Boston VR). She was apparently unmarried when her father (as Michael Willis) wrote his will, 21 June 1669, indicating that daughter Temperance, if unmarried and obedient to her mother, was to receive fifteen pounds (Register 48 [1894] : 324. If anyone has access to Vol. 69 of TAG, I'd appreciate any information that helps clarify this situation.
