Family talk:Nathaniel Jones and Mary Cook (1)

Confusing two families [17 March 2011]

I merged together two pages because of the children listed. These children belong to Nathaniel Jones (s/o Josiah) of Watertown, Weston, Worcester, and Falmouth, ME. His wife is Mary ---, probably Mary Cook. However, one of the wives listed here, Mary Reddit, belongs to the Nathaniel Jones (s/o John) of Concord. The Concord family has births recorded in Concord that overlap with the other family, and the Concord parents died there (Mary in 1749, the 1724 shown for her should belong to Mary Cook, i.e., the Worcester family), so the Concord family is demonstrably a separate and distinct family whose children are not those on this page (Elnathan, Anna, Mary, Josiah, Dorcas, Ebenezer, Elizabeth). It should have been obvious given a marriage in 1696 with the first child born in 1705 that at a minimum, research on this family was incomplete, if not wrong, and so it turns out. If sources had been documented as well as LDS ordinances, maybe it would have been discovered earlier... Assuming the creator of this mess was a descendant of one of the children listed here, they now have new ancestors.

I will be working to straighten out these two families over the next few days. --Jrich 12:02, 17 March 2011 (EDT)
