Watchers

wrong Joseph Wilder [15 September 2011]

Source:NEHGR, p. 118:63, "Notes", says "The Rev. Moses Wilder, The Book of the Wilders, 1878, p. 190, confuses Joseph Wilder (son of Gardner Wilder) who married Susanna Phelps in Lancaster in 1773, with Joseph (called Tertius), the son of Joseph and Deborah Wilder." Part of the reason this page erred in copying this wrong data was presumably because it relied on one source, it provided no marriage date. Thus it lost a clue that something was rotten in Denmark. A first marriage in 1773 is, of course, unlikely for a man born in 1734. Plus the birth of alleged son Nathan in Jan 1774 is a little soon after the marriage in Dec 1773. Plus the birth record of Nathan names his parents as "Joseph and Elizabeth", hinting at who the Joseph on this page really married. Thus, as always, taking the time to create more complete pages with sources does help avoid errors like this. I removed Person:Joseph Wilder (2) as husband. --Jrich 10:55, 15 September 2011 (EDT)
