No daughter Mary [17 January 2022]

The following was originally posted 17 Jan 2022 by Jrich on the now-deleted page of the fictitious Mary Pratt:

In trying to add a date or estimated date to this page so it would be more informative when listed in search results and not resemble my target of 100 years later, I could not locate any marriage record for John Battle nor Mary Pratt in Hingham. Note that americanancestors.org has indexed Hersey's copy of the Hingham records, and familysearch.org has indexed the original copy, and neither listed it. I also searched other sources including Hingham intentions from 1700 until 1718 when the will was written. Further I could find no evidence of a couple named John Battle with a wife Mary having children. Nor could I find any birth date for Mary Pratt daughter of Joseph Pratt.
Digging deeper, it turns out that the will of Joseph Pratt does not actually mention a daughter Mary Battle! This is true of the recorded version cited by the author [1] and the original/copy found in the files [2]. It mentions a daughter Experience Battle. Experience married Edward Battle of Hingham about 1706/7 intentions, p. 2, their son Edward was born p. 147 bottom line, followed by other children later in the records.
This is obviously sloppy work, but with the appropriate substitutions, does not affect the author's argument about Hannah Pratt. But the evidence for John Battle and Mary Pratt and their marriage no longer exists.--DataAnalyst 21:11, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
