Unsourced data that makes no sense [17 March 2012]

I know I am just pointing out the obvious, but son Joseph b. 1662, lives until 1683, but another son Joseph born and died in 1663/4 is overlapping? History of Hadley p. 477, p. 477, says the father Joseph, s/o Nathaniel, resided in Northampton from 1664 to 1674 (which differs from the birth locations for the children given here), then removed to Northfield, oldest son Samuel b. 1666 with Joseph born 1668 and others. (This latter explanation is repeated in Cutter's Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of Massachusetts, p. 1:75, and also in TAG, p. 20:167, the later citing Northampton records.) Presumably the confusion over son Joseph's is why two marriage dates are given? It would sure help to have sources because it looks like a collection of junk, and being forced to cite sources based on primary documents is a great way to keep junk from creeping in. --Jrich 00:28, 2 January 2012 (EST)

The TAG reference above was to a Jacobus article, normally trustworthy, but in TAG 21:92, he presents "a literal transcription" of the Northampton records by Walter E. Corbin showing the 1668 birth to be Thomas as shown on this page, not Joseph as his first article and the various works above allege. However the child stillborn 1663/4 was not named, resolving some of the confusion of this page, and the birth of Phebe (wife of Stephen Hurlbut) is estimated about 1660 and of Joseph estimated about 1662, though there is no record for either of them, and they could be earlier, Jacobus figuring the parents were of an age to marry as early as 1656. So both marriage dates on this page are suspect. The stillborn birth and 5 subsequent children all occurred in Northampton. --Jrich 09:56, 2 January 2012 (EST)
