In merging several trees, I've come up with a set of strange and slightly conflicting information on this family. Would someone care to jump in and sort it out?
The "early" Jonathan Deming and Elizabeth Gilbert (as parents of Elizabeth and John Deming) appear to be a fabrication/confusion with the "later" and real Jonathan Deming and Elizabeth Gilbert (see the citation I added to Elizabeth Deming). I have removed daughter Elizabeth from this family, but there is more work to be done. Elizabeth and John should be linked together in a family with unknown parents names, and this couple should be reverted to original data for Jonathan Deming and Elizabeth Gilbert (7). I'm not sure what to do with the other children except to unlink them from this couple - I'm not sure how much research I want to spend on this, given that I am in the middle of a GEDCOM review. So much has been done since the merge that it is probably easier to fix this manually than to try to undo merges. It is too late for me to tackle this tonight - I may fix this later this week unless someone else decides to tackle it.--DataAnalyst 21:59, 16 February 2012 (EST)
The Barbour Collection shows 10 Children born to Jonathan and Elizabeth which almost agrees with Savage. Apparently, They had triplet girls, Eliza, Elizabeth and Elusse b 15/16 Feb 1674/5 all of whom probably died in infancy. Then Elizabeth again, Thomas, Charles, Benjamin, Jacob Mary and Ann. He also had 4 children by 1st wife Sarah (Graves?)--Scot 15:04, 20 February 2012 (EST) Moved this stuff from the Family page 6 September 2024 [add comment] [edit] ▼ ConfusionThis family lived in the 17th century, but has also been transposed into the 16th century, as the parents of John and Elizabeth Deming, early immigrants to New England, and grandparents of this Jonathan. There is no basis for a 16th century couple of this name.[1] GEN-MEDIEVAL-L Archives 2006-04, msg 1143892360, posted by Pam 'The only place I saw the parentage listed for Elizabeth Deming was in a privately published genealogy. I traced the so-called sources they gave and none of them listed Elizabeth's parents. Elizabeth's brother, John Deming, had a son, Jonathan, who married an Elizabeth Gilbert. Personally I think someone messed up the relationships. As far as I know there has been no proof of parentage for the Demings. I've been trying to trace them for over 20 years.' --jaques1724 03:54, 7 September 2024 (UTC) |
