Family talk:Jonathan Deming and Elizabeth Gilbert (14)

In merging several trees, I've come up with a set of strange and slightly conflicting information on this family. Would someone care to jump in and sort it out?

I'm not sure if I can sort it out, and I'm not exactly sure what you are questioning. There is no documentation until the family of Nathaniel Foote and Elizabeth Deming. Clearly the birthplace for The last 3 children is wrong. There was not a settlement at Wethersfield at the dates shown for their birth. If Jonathon died in England in 1647, Elizabeth must have accompanied and/or followed her adult children to the new world after that. Her daughter Elizabeth may have preceded her and her sons if her husband Nathaniel Foote died before Jonathon. She must have been born later than either of the dates shown as she was young enough to bear 2 more children by her second husband, Gpv. Thomas Welles after their Marriage in 1645.
The Family Jonathan Deming and Elizabeth Gilbert is clearly much Later. The fact that Jonathon Deming and Elizabeth Gilbert (1) had 3 sons at Wethersfield means that a descendant Jonathan could have married an Elizabeth wrongly assumed to be nee Gilbert. There is even the possibility that some Gilberts emigrated along the Demings and Footes. I will study the notes for Nathaniel and for Thomas Welles to see if they offer clarification. Meanwhile I see 7 or 8 duplicates for these people and families.--Scot 15:26, 15 April 2008 (EDT)
Some of the pages list various AFN files, and I looked at one or two and they were as badly messed up as this page. The best case would be that there are two Jonathan Deming and Elizabeth Gilbert couples, one grandparents of the other. The worse case is that the grandparents are AFN fictions. I lean towards the second since the Deming Genealogy says that Jonathan's father John has birth and origin unknown. Some sources that you may find handy cleaning this up:

The "early" Jonathan Deming and Elizabeth Gilbert (as parents of Elizabeth and John Deming) appear to be a fabrication/confusion with the "later" and real Jonathan Deming and Elizabeth Gilbert (see the citation I added to Elizabeth Deming). I have removed daughter Elizabeth from this family, but there is more work to be done. Elizabeth and John should be linked together in a family with unknown parents names, and this couple should be reverted to original data for Jonathan Deming and Elizabeth Gilbert (7). I'm not sure what to do with the other children except to unlink them from this couple - I'm not sure how much research I want to spend on this, given that I am in the middle of a GEDCOM review. So much has been done since the merge that it is probably easier to fix this manually than to try to undo merges. It is too late for me to tackle this tonight - I may fix this later this week unless someone else decides to tackle it.--DataAnalyst 21:59, 16 February 2012 (EST)

The Barbour Collection shows 10 Children born to Jonathan and Elizabeth which almost agrees with Savage. Apparently, They had triplet girls, Eliza, Elizabeth and Elusse b 15/16 Feb 1674/5 all of whom probably died in infancy. Then Elizabeth again, Thomas, Charles, Benjamin, Jacob Mary and Ann. He also had 4 children by 1st wife Sarah (Graves?)--Scot 15:04, 20 February 2012 (EST)
