Family talk:John Taylor and Rhoda Tinker (2)

Extraneous Children Formerly Assigned to This Family [9 November 2011]

The contributing family pages that consolidated to this page, contributed a host of children that were not supported by Bicknell. Three of these were: Abigail Taylor; Anna Taylor; and Hannah Taylor. None of these three names appear in the families of John and/or Thomas Taylor, sons of John and Rhoda (?Tinker) Taylor. There is an Abigail in the family of the first Stephen Taylor of Windsor, but neither a Hannah nor an Anna. These appear to be the residue of some particularly inaccurate AFNs (8VNH-L9 and 8MJ9-RF). Those (and related) AFNs, in turn, appear to have resulted from an inaccurate interpretation of a statement by Mary Walton Ferris in Dawes-Gates, p. 785,

"(John Taylor) married … a widow, Rhoda (-----) (-----), who had two or more daughters by a former husband. … It is probable that these girls used the name of their stepfather Taylor and that they died before maturity, for one called "Hannah Taylor daughter of John" died at Windsor in 1650 and others who may have been of this family, called Abigail and Anna Taylor died there in 1643 and 1644-5 respectively."

The other four were Edward Taylor who was the first minister of Westfield, came in 1668 and is not associated with the Windsor family, and James, Samuel and Alice who were apparently his siblings but did not come to New England.
