My name is Angie Hoover from Pampa, TX. My great-great grandparents are John George Edward Redwood and Mary McNair Morton. I have been able to trace JGE Redwood's family back a few generations, and now I am trying to trace Mary McNair Morton's side. Mary McNair Morton is last seen in the 1900 census living with her daughter Mary Morton (Redwood) Latham and her grandson, my grandfather, Louis Edward Latham, who was 20 at that time. Since Mary Morton (Redwood) Latham died later that year in 1900 and her mother Mary McNair Morton Redwood was still alive, I was wondering when M.M.M.Redwood died and where she was buried. In 1900 in Alanta, Fulton County, Georgia is where the three of them were living when the census was taken. I did manage to find that Mary McNair Morton's parents were George Morton and Mary McNair.
Mary Morton (Redwood) Latham was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Meridian, MS, next to her daughter Mary Alyne Latham. You can find these tombstones on findagrave.com. Dr. John George Edward Redwood is buried near the two Lathams.
Louis K. Latham (my great grandfather) whose second wife was Mary Morton (Redwood), was buried near his first wife, Revilla Clinton Latham, when he died in 1886. He is another person that I am trying to trace. Louis K. Latham was born, Nov.5, 1833, and died Aug. 16, 1886. He was born in Marengo County, Alabama, and died in Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi. Louis K. Latham's tombstone is in the McLemore Cemetery in Meridian, MS. I had to ask someone in Meridian to actually walk through the McClemore Cemetery to verify the fact that Louis K. Latham was indeed buried near his first wife because his name is not listed on the McClemore roster as being buried there. The clue that I found that he was buried there was located in the Mississippi Confederate Grave Registry which had his birth, death, and burial info listed.
No one in our family knew very much about my grandfather's family, and now that I am a grandparent myself, I have been thinking a lot about this and trying to solve the mystery. I am trying to find Louis K. Latham's parents and siblings, but have been unable to find out anything. I have searched through family trees in ancestry.com but unable to find any info that checks out. I have checked through the land bureau, wills, and deeds and have found nothing. There ought to be some way to find out who his parents were.
Louis K.Latham married Revilla Clinton in 1855 and had several children including Lela O., Mollie, Frank (who you don't have listed)Eva, and Helen. Revilla died in 1873. Louis K. remarried in 1876 to Mary Redwood. They had Louis E.Latham in 1879 and Mary Alyne Latham in 1883. My grandfather, Louis E. Latham, died in 1968, where his little sister only lived 5 years and died in 1888. Louis K. died in 1886.
A lot of this info is listed in the Rugeley family tree on ancestry.com. If anyone has any information or suggestions on where to go for information I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks! Angie Hoover
