To widow, or not to widow? [16 June 2009]

Source:History of the Reed family in Europe and America, p. 325 identifies Jacob Reed's second wife as "Widow Hannah Noyes" but doesn't otherwise identify her. Source:Francis Cooke Of The Mayflower and His Descendants for Four Generations, p. 409 identifies her as Hannah Noyes, d/o Nicholas Noyes and Sarah Lunt. Not a widow at all. Source:Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, p. 12:225-6 says that on 21 May 1725, "Hannah Noyce, ye daughter of Nicholas Noyce, late of Abington, dec'd" chose William Reed (the brother of Jacob) to be her guardian. Source:Genealogical record of some of the Noyes descendants of James, Nicholas and Peter Noyes, p. 1:53, list a Hannah Noyes who m. Jacob Reed among the children of Nicholas Noyes and Sarah Lunt. I suspect the Reed genealogy is in error. --Jrich 22:55, 4 March 2009 (EST)

NEHGR, p. 53:38, "Noyes Pedigree" by James Atkins Noyes, says that Samuel Noyes of Newbury m. 30 Sept 1714 Hannah Poore, d/o Henry Poore and Abigail Hale. She was b. 19 July 1692, and when he d. Abington 6 Nov 1729, she m. (2) Jacob Reed. Needless to say this is a much better match age-wise, so pending other evidence to the contrary, I'll accept it. --Jrich 18:39, 16 June 2009 (EDT)
