26 Nov 1877 Dire Affliction. Mr. C. Van Reyendam, of Passaic City has his fifth and last child at the point of death with diphtheria. He lost two in one day last week, and one the week before, from the same disease. Some months ago his oldest met with an accidental death. Mr. Van Reyendam himself is lame from the effects of an accident, and about a year ago he was knocked down and robbed in the street and severly hurt then. He seems to have nothing but bad luck.

30 Nov 1877 Last night the fifth and last child of Mr. and Mrs. C. Van Reyendam died of diphtheria. All have passed away within a year. Mrs. Van Reyendam now lies very low, being completely prostrated by the weight of her afflictions.
