Delft/Delfshaven [29 January 2011]

John, I am wondering if you want the place link for their marriage to both link to Delft and also to show Delft (instead of Delfshaven). Right now, Delft, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands|Delfshaven, Zuid-Holland, Nederland appears in the place box (it's tough to see the whole line with that small box). The | (called a pipe) allows places to point to one location, but show something else on the page. If you'd like the page to also show Delft, you can use this: Delft, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands|Delft, Zuid-Holland, Nederland --Jennifer (JBS66) 07:48, 29 January 2011 (EST)

Jennifer, this reminds of your post on MySources which I didn't quite get. In this case, my software autocompleted 'Delf' to 'Delfshaven' instead of 'Delft' which I attempted to correct in WR. Apparently if I change things (places or sources) I should do something different than just clicking edit, make a correction and hit save in order for it to display well?--Govegus 07:58, 29 January 2011 (EST)

The WeRelate software can also autocomplete... if you begin by typing Delft into the place box, you will be presented with a list places - click on the right one, and the place is filled into the box. However, WR place pages are titled with the country as Netherlands, not Nederland. If you want the place to appear on the page as Delft, Zuid-Holland, Nederland, then you need to use the "pipe". The format for that is: Page title|text you want to appear on the page. In this case Delft, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands|Delft, Zuid-Holland, Nederland.

You did the right thing by editing, making the correction, and saving. It was the edit in particular that needs tweaking. The MySources are a little different - I'll go back to that discussion to try to clarify. --Jennifer (JBS66) 08:20, 29 January 2011 (EST)
