Their obituary read, "AGED COUPLE ASPHYXIATED - William Rower and Wife Killed as They Slept in Kalida Home by Deadly Coal Gas from a Stove - The people of the little village of Kalida, thirteen miles northwest of Delphos, in Putnam county, were inexpressibly shocked Tuesday morning when it was ascertained that William Rower and his aged wife had been found dead in their bed, at their residence, near the Presbyterian church in Kalida.
Death was probably due to the inhalation of coal gas as they slept. The top of the hard coal burner was open, the drafts were open, and the fire was out Tuesday morning. It is supposed that the aged couple replenished the fire Monday night, before retiring, and that by reason on the top being left open the fire was extinguished, but not until the home was filled with deadly gas fumes, resulting in their death.
A son, Val. Rower, made his home with his parents, but was absent Monday night, having gone to his farm some miles away.
Mr. Rower was a retired farmer. He is the last of the original Rower family in Putnam county. Children of the deceased are: Mrs. George Reynolds and Mrs. Richard Reynolds, of Pleasant Valley; John Rower, of Findlay; Albert Rower, of Vaughnsville; Elvin Rower, of Ottoville; Mrs. Ben Blakely and Mrs. Wm. Donivan, of Kalida.
Mr. and Mrs. Rower were members of the U. B. church. Funeral services over their remains were held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock.
Mr. and Mrs. Rower were married 61 years ago at Groveport, O., and had often expressed the wish that they might be taken together in death. Mr. Rower was 89 years old, and his wife 86."
