Rachel Montgomery was the married name of Rachel Patterson, one of four children (Arthur, Josiah, Elizabeth and Rachel...all born between September, 1787 and May, 1794 in Lincoln County, NC) born to William Patterson and Ann (Alexander) Cunningham Patterson.
Ann (Alexander) Cunningham, a widow, brought a young son, John Cunningham (named after his father, and also mentioned in Ann's will) into her Dec. 26, 1786 marriage to William Patterson.
After the August 27, 1793 death of William Patterson, Ann went on to marry twice more, finally ending up as Ann (Alexander) Cunningham Patterson Holmes Craig/Crage. It is interesting to note that of her 4 husbands, 3 (Patterson/Crage) had all been participants in the Battle of Kings Mountain in 1780.
