William McConnell was the beginning of the McConnells In America. Before 1735, William came from Dublin, Ireland as well as his brothers and families. He had sons William McConnell and Francis McConnell, Sr. that married Mary Unknown from Pennsylvania. The McConnells set sail from Ireland to America as early as 1735. They arrived in the Colonies at Philadelphia, Penn. Later they moved on into the vicinity of "Old Fort Pitt", now Pittsburg. In October 1775, many of the McConnells left Fort Pitt, Penn. and made their migration to Kentucky. Soon after the War of 182, some of the McConnells left Kentucky for Indiana. Among those seeking new frontiers were John and Samuel McConnell. The McConnells that married into the following families--Biggs, Bohall, Millstead, Miller, Morgan, Briner, Brammer, Brown, etc. In 1855, a large Wagon Train headed west for new lands. They crossed the Mississippi river near St. Louis and stopped in Clarke county, Mo. Many of the Brammers stopped here. In the early part of 1856, what was left of the Wagon Train, settled in Richland twp, Decatur county, Iowa; in the vicinity of Sand Creek, five miles N. W. of Westerville.
