As John W. Pritchett notes, some believe that Phoebe Branch married Edward Hill rather than William Hill, son of James Hill and Ann Clarke of Henrico Co., VA. However, I do not share this belief, since Alexander Elam son of Phoebe Hill and Joel Elam named his son William Branch Elam. Phoebe Branch is clearly the grandmother of Alexander Elam.

It does seem quite likely that William's wife's name was Martha Phoebe Branch.
