- ↑ The Hobart Journal creates a confusing set of records.
First, the births appear to just from 1680 to 1686 with no other siblings.
The Hobart Journal shows a daughter born to William Hersey 14 Sep 1681 (NEHGR, Vol. 121, p. 208). This would be one day after the death of the first daughter named Judith.
The Hobart Journal also shows a daughter of William Hersey dying 23 Oct 1681 (ibid, p. 209). The town records name this daughter Mary (p. 54).
Source:History of the Town of Hingham, Massachusetts, Vol. 2, p. 299, does not mention either the Hobart "birth" nor the death in October. No death is shown for Mary b. 1676, but there is no information at all listed other than her birth.
The assumption is that the Hobart entry referred to the death of Judith but was either written incorrectly, or mistranscribed as a birth. The death in October is assumed to apply to the Mary b. 1676. The family did not show any pattern of having children as close together as a birth in 1681 would require.
