Peculiar Jurisdiction of Canterbury
On the Seventeenth day of December 1792
Appeared personally William Hammond who being sworn upon the Holy Evangelists to depose the Truth upon his Oath deposeth and saith That he is of the Parish of Bersted in the County of Sussex which hath been the usual place of his abode for Ten Years last past Aged Forty Five Years and a Widower And intendeth to Intermarry with Mary Farr of Bersted aforesaid which hath been the usual place of her abode for One Year last past Aged Twenty Years and a Maiden And that he doth not know or believe there is any lawfull Lett or Impediment by reason of any Precontract Consanguinity Affinity or other lawfull cause whatsoever to hinder the said intended Marriage and prayed Licence to solemnize the said Marriage in the Face of the Parish Church of Bersted aforesaid And at the same time Appeared personally George Farr of the Parish of Fernhurst in the County abovesaid Husbandman who being sworn as above deposeth and saith That he is the natural & lawful Father of the said Mary Farr and as such doth give his Assent and consent to such her Intermarriage with the said William Hammond as abovesaid
