[edit] November 12, 1687 - Marriage IndentureThis indenture made the twelfth day of November in the third year of the reign of our Sovereign lord James the Second by the grace of God King of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland defender of the faith et Anno Domini 1687 between William Druett of Bratton in the county of Wilts, Yeoman of the first part and Anne Whittaket the elder of Bratton aforesaid widon. John Aldridge of the same, son of Robert Aldridge, and John Blatch of the parish of Westbury in the said county of the other part. Whereas a marriage is intended shortly to be had between the said William Druett and Anne Whitaker the younger and is the daughter of the said Anne Whitaker the elderwith which said Anne the younger the said William Druett by virtue of such marriage will have and service the value of two hundred pounds being a legacy given her by the last will and testament of her late deceased father Henry Whittaker …. Of other advantages. Now this indenture witnesseth that the said William Druett for himself, his heirs ….. and administrators doth …. And grant to and with the said Anne Whitaker the elder , John Aldridge and John Blatch their executors, administrators and assigns in manner following (that is to say) that in case the said intended marriage take effect and should the said Anne Whitaker the younger happen to survive the said William Druett then the executors and administrators of the said William Druett shall immediately after his death pay and satisfy to the said Anne Whitaker the younger the sum of three hundred pounds of lawful English money. And in case the said intended marriage take effect and the said William Druett happen to survive the said Anne the younger and only one child be living at the death of said Anne the younger between her and the said William Druett begotten then immediately after the death of the said Anne the younger the said William Druett his heirs, executors or administrators shall pay and satisfy unto such only child the sum of three hundred pounds of lawful money, but in case more than one child be living at such the death of the said Anne the younger between her and the said William Druett begotten then the sum of three hundred pounds to all and every or any of such children by such shares and proportions in such manner and format as she the said Anne Whittaker the younger … … wishing under her hand … by two or more reliable witnesses nominate direct and appoint And for want of such … direction and appointment then then the sum of three hundred pounds to all and every such children by equal shares and proportions and in case any of the said children did?
