Norfolk County Will Book III, 1788-1802, compiled by Ethel Brewster (1986) abstract of the will of William Boushell, Sr. Will Book III, pp. 150, 150a St. Brides Parish, Norfolk County, Virginia 18 Sep. 1793 - 18 May 1795 Executors: Sons: James Boushell and William Boushell Dau: Dinah Boushell (Negro boy Bob; bed and furniture--her choice upstairs; cow and calf, sow and her piggs) Dau: Betsey Boushell (Nero boy Abram; bed and furniture--her choice upstairs; cow and calf, sow with her piggs) Wife: (not named) (during her natural life--one-half of the land and houses I now live on; one-third of the land I bought from William Cunningham and his wife Mary, John Peters and Ann his wife and Martha Whiddon; also-Negroes: Boatswain, Jenney, Sarah and Sarah; remainder of beds and furniture; her choice of 5 best cows and calves, yoke of oxen and 2 horses; 1 ox, 1 horse cart, a riding chair, 10 hogs, 4 sows with piggs-her choice, 6 sheep, all the casks, 1 copper Still and Worm, one-half of my crop of corn, wheat, pease, oats and fodder) Son: James Boushell (the land I purchased from Samuel Wormington, over the Great Bridge, on condition that he pays the guardian of my son, Thomas, the sum of 15 pounds--to be used for his education and clothing) Son: William Boushell (to be guardian of my son, Thomas and teach him the art and trade of a house carpenter and joiner; all my carpenter and jointer tools) Item: To my son, William and his heirs, all the land to the main road that I bought of William Cunningham, Lodowick Brodie, John Peters and their wives and Martha Widdon--except a part known as Balls Field, a line is already made from the road to the back swamp, on condition that if said son, William dies without lawful issue and should not have sold same--then said land to be equally divided between my daus: Nancy, Frances, Dinah and Betsey. The party or parties holding/enjoying said land shall also pay the sum of 15 pounds into the hands of the guardian of son, Thomas--to be used in educating and clothing him. Daus: Nancy, Frances, Dinah and Betsey Boushell, (land I bought from Willis Wilson and Richard Bickerdick, over the Great Bridge, known as Martin Joyce, and the same to be sold with money arising therefrom to be equally divided between them; other one-half of my corn, wheat, oats pease and fodder; after death of my wife--all things hereby left to her, except the lands, goes to my 4 daughters. Item: All my other Estate, not before mentioned to be equally divided among my daughters without a sale. My executors to sell the stock and other perishable articles belonging to my children underage and money arising to be applied to the best advantage for said children. Witnesses: Christopher Bromadges, Christopher Gardner, Richard Webb Proved by Richard Webb, 20 January, 1795, and continued for further proof. James Boushell, an Executor, with William Boushell and Thomas Nash, as his securities--given certificate for Probate. Further proved by Christopher Gardner, 18 May 1795, and ordered to be recorded. |
