- In thirty five years of researching this family I have never seen a source for the claim that William Bell, known as Stone Church's wife was Mary McGowin/McGowan, yet it has been repeated so many times it seems to have taken on a life of its own in old family histories and repeated endlessly on Ancestry.com. I would even be pleased to find that it was a family memory or story or even where it first came from. William is my fourth great grandfather based on DNA matches with other known descendants.
