NEWTOWN, Pa. -- Jean Moment Douglas, 95, passed away on Nov. 18, 2007 in Newtown, Pa. Jean was born Jan. 9, 1912 in Newark. Her family moved to Plainfield, where her father, the Rev. John James Moment, served many years as minister of the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Jean was married on May 6, 1938 to Walter S. Douglas, also of Plainfield. Walter Douglas served as the senior partner of the consulting engineering firm of Parsons, Brinckerhoff, Quade and Douglas in New York City.
She believed strongly in volunteer work for her community. In Plainfield, she volunteered for her church, Muhlenberg Hospital, the local Garden Club, and was an active member of the Junior League.
Both she and her husband shared a love of the water in general and of sailing in particular. After her husband's retirement, they relocated to Jamestown, R.I., where they enjoyed being part of a beautiful New England sailing community. In Jamestown, Jean continued her volunteer work with the Garden Club and Meals on Wheels.
She is preceded in death by her adoring husband, "Douger" and her beloved son, David Spalding Douglas. She is survived by her two daughters, <names of living individuals have been removed>; and her four grandchildren, <names of living individuals have been removed.> A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Jan. 5 at the Central Baptist Church, 99 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, R.I.
