"The wedding of Miss Mary Ellen Chivvis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Chivvis, 1437 McCausland Avenue, and Edward Glion Curtis Jr. took place last evening at 8:30 o'clock at the home of the bride's great aunt, Mrs. Newton R. Wilson of 4 Brentmoor Park. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Dr. Karl Morgan Block of the Church of St. Michael and St. George, at the north end of the spacious living room, which was simply decorated with greenery. Two seven-branch candelabra stood on either side of an improvised alter. [The bride wore her mother's wedding dress and veil.] Miss Nancy Chivvis was her sister's maid of honor, and another sister, Miss Susan; Miss Mary Beall Lane and Miss Lauramae Pippin were the bridesmaids...Another younger sister of the bride, Sarah Chivvis and Adelaide Cherbonnier, along with Bruce and Billy Carson held the ribbons at the aisle. Thomas Bradford Curtis was the best man for his brother and the groomsmen included two other brothers Ernest M. and William S. Curtis; Alan Caldwell, Jack Cole and Dr. John Agar... Miss Kathleen Mumford [good friend of MBG & EMG] of Richmond Virginia came to St. Louis for the wedding and has been a guest at the Chivvis home. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis will leave for Washington DC where they will make their home for the next three years, [sic - should be 3 months] later in the week. An old-fashioned custom will be revived by Mrs. Curtis, the mother of the groom, who will give a reception for her son and daughter-in-law this week."
