- ↑ It is suspected that Lois was the second wife of Thomas Putney. This identification is very speculative. We know Lois married a Mr. Putney, but none of the sources identify him. The only person who seems appropriate based on the presentation of Source:Cogswell, Leander W. History of the Town of Henniker, Merrimack County, New Hampshire : From the Date of the Canada Grant by the Province of, p. 701, is Thomas Putney who m. (1) Lydia Peaslee. Though no second marriage is described in this source, it does say Thomas' wife "d. Oct., 1828", which fact agrees with Lois' death date. Lois' death is the only Putney death in Henniker in 1828 (see here for 1828 deaths). Since no death record for Lydia in 1828, or earlier, nor marriage record of Lois Whitney to a Mr. Putney has been found, it would easy for this source to presume the 1828 death of Thomas' wife was his first and only wife (Lydia), having no reason to suspect a remarriage.
If the marriage here did occur, it seems likely it was after 1802 since Thomas Putney's children appear born without any kind of break such as might be seen in the case of a remarriage (... 1791, 1793, 1795, 1797, 1800, 1802).
It should be repeated that this is a speculative proposal, and note that the cited death record names "Wido Lois Putney", which is problematical since Thomas did not die until 1830.
