- ↑ Source:Ferris, Mary Walton. Dawes-Gates Ancestral Lines, Vol. 1, p. 430, says the mention in her sister's will is all we know of Mary after her husband's probate is settled. Specifically there does not seem to be any marriage record to identify her second husband. NEHGR, Vol. 55, p. 289, in "Descendants of Dea. Zachary Fitch", shows Jeremiah m. (1) Esther ---, m. (2) Sarah Chubbuck, and m. (3) 1689 Martha (---) Messinger (i.e., no Mary). However, there is no death date for Sarah, and the following suggests he may have had an additional wife? Source:Dunkle, Robert J. Records of the Churches of Boston and the First Church, Second Parish, and Third Parish of Roxbury, under records of the "First Church", show the admission of Mary Fitch wife of Jeremiah in 1686 (p. 73). However, the son would have been almost old enough to have been married as well and more research on this is needed (the NEHGR articles does not follow him, gives his birth as 1667). Page 73 also shows the admission of Goody Fitz in 1686, probably the same event? Page 79 shows the admission of Mary Fitch in a group between 1680 and 1687. This Mary is not identified and the ambiguity of the dating of the events in this list means this could also refer to the same event? Jeremiah Fitch was of approximately an appropriate age for Mary to marry. If she was Jeremiah's wife, then she died by 1689, when he remarried. On the other hand, all this could indicate there were multiple women named Mary Fitch, meaning we actually have no clear idea which Mr. Fitch Mary married (Joseph Fitch of Reading is a less likely candidate).
