The Vowells farmed in Choctaw County, Mississippi. I believe it was Sam Vowell that started the Vowell School, which still stands today and functions as a community center. The School is very near Mount Zion Cemetery, where most of the Vowell ancestors from the region are buried.

Early Joe was the unofficial "veterinarian" of the county. He looked after everyone's livestock when they were ill or giving birth.
