Elizabeth Spencer, a widow, of Saybrook, calling herself daughter of William Waller, Jr., conveyed land in Lyme in 1722 and 1734 [Lyme Deeds, 5:278; 6:341]. It is difficult to find a husband for her unless she was a second wife of Thomas Spencer of Saybrook, who left a surviving widow Elizabeth; and if she was, that may explain the wide gap in his children preceding the birth of Caleb."
