Thomas (Smith) … m (1) Sarah [? da. Samuel Dow of Hartford].

  2. This marriage is not proven. Jacobus apparently inferred that Sarah might be the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Graves) Dow of Hartford based on this couple's naming a son "Dow Smith." During the late seventeenth century, other Dow families in New England were almost exclusively located north of Boston. In any event, Sarah Dow was baptized in Hartford in 1672/73; Sarah wife of Thomas Smith died in East Haven in 1718. They may or may not have been the same individual.
