According to John's pension papers he had been married before Mary Griffen but the 1st wife's name is not given. In 1846 Mrs. Elizabeth Crawford, wife of David Crawford stated that "Thomas Leverett married his first wife, her own aunt."

3 July 1789 Thomas marries Mary L. Griffin in Wilkes Co. GA which is where they lived for about 30 years before moving to Putnam Co. GA and finally Troup Co. GA where Thomas died 9 Jun 1834

the widow of Thomas Leverett, Mary, was allowed pension and later moved to Chambers Co. AL dying in February 1850. Her will written in 25 Aug 1848 mentions the following children:
