  2. Source:Hayden, Charles Albert. Capen Family : Descendants of Bernard Capen of Dorchester, Mass, p. 86, indicates that Thomas and Mary had a son James Larkin "who died 10 Jun 1821 aged 35 years." Besides the fact that neither an appropriate birth or death record can be located, this statement is unlikely (Mary would have been 49 in 1786 when the implied birth would have occurred, 18 years after marriage?) and demonstrably false (in Thomas' probate, daughter Mary Edmonds receipt dated 1801 identifies her as the only surviving heir, Mary and Hannah Mallett having died since Thomas did, no son being mentioned, nor any guardian being assigned for such a son who would have been a minor at the time).
